Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a Portrait and a Caricature?

Caricature is a technique which includes exaggerating various features of a person’s face or body. An artist might do this in order to entertain his or her subject or to get a laugh from them or other guests. Another reason they might do this is to simply make it clear who it is that they are drawing by exaggerating various features. A portrait drawing is simply a drawing of a person, and a portrait sketch is a portrait created in a short period of time, such as 5, 10 or 15 minutes.

How long does each sketch take to complete?

Sketches on average should take 10 minutes each. The process can be sped up so that each sketch will take 6 minutes each or if requested, I can create a more detailed 20 minute sketch for a special guest.

Can I get a digital version of my portrait after the event?

Yes! After the event, I can provide high-quality photographs of each sketch using a professional full-frame mirrorless camera. These can be standalone images of the artwork or candid shots of guests proudly holding their portraits—perfect for sharing on social media or keeping as a digital memento. I’ll send the photos directly to the event host or individually to each guest, depending on your preference.

Can I have my portraits themed or customized?

Yes! I love tailoring the experience to suit your event. Whether it’s a specific theme, a company brand, or a personal message, I offer a keepsake upgrade for just $35: each live-drawn portrait is placed in a protective transparent sleeve and finished with a custom-designed sticker. This could feature your logo, event artwork, or a heartfelt note from you as the host.
To make it happen, I’ll need the text and/or logo in advance, along with your approval of the final design—so there’s plenty of time to print and prep everything before the big day.

What type of events do you sketch at?

Sketch Club can sketch at any type of event—if there are people, I can draw them! From weddings and birthday parties to corporate functions, product launches, festivals, and even intimate gatherings, live portrait sketching adds a unique, interactive touch that guests love. Whether it’s a high-energy celebration or a quiet, thoughtful moment, I tailor my approach to suit the vibe and make each sketch a memorable keepsake.

Do you roam around with a sketch pad, or set up in one spot?

I can do either—whatever suits your event best! Some hosts prefer a roaming setup, where I mingle with guests and sketch on the spot, creating spontaneous portraits and lively interactions. Others opt for a dedicated sketching station with an easel, where guests can approach me for their turn. Both styles offer a unique experience, and I’m happy to tailor the setup to match your venue, vibe and flow of the event.

Can you include couples or groups in one sketch?

Yes, I can! Whether it’s a couple, a trio of friends, or a whole family, I’m happy to sketch multiple people together in a single artwork. Group sketches are a fun way to capture shared moments and relationships, and they often become treasured keepsakes. Just keep in mind that the more faces in one drawing, the more time it may take—but I always aim to keep things lively and engaging for everyone involved.

Do you require a deposit to secure the date?

A deposit is preferred to lock in your booking and secure the date in my calendar. It helps ensure everything runs smoothly and allows me to prepare for your event with confidence. While I aim to be flexible, especially for last-minute inquiries, confirmed bookings with a deposit take priority. If you have any questions about payment or scheduling, I’m happy to chat and find the best arrangement for your needs.
